Hermitage Farm, Sussex

This is a delightfully unusual project for us in that the house will be a contemporary new build, replacing a derelict dwelling, rather than a restoration. Avantiarchitects have been given the project to turn the dream into reality.

The client gave us a wonderful brief that married perfectly with the ‘wheel’ theme of the proposed house; ‘spokes’ lead you into the different areas of the landscape that include land art, a music studio and woodland.

Both the house and garden will be respectful of the region with minimal impact on the landscape and using local materials typical of the area. A seam of Tunbridge Wells sandstone dominates one part and it is hoped that a reclaimed source will be found to use for the build.
