Services

Introduction

Our practice offers a complete service from initial consultation right through the evolution of design to the ultimate realisation of the project. This is managed through a six stage process covering everything from the initial consultation through to development and implementation of the final planting plan.

Our team includes landscape architect Nina Reindhardt and designer Ros Hering.

We work with the very best landscape and specialist contractors throughout the country to guarantee a high quality finish. Thomas Hoblyn Garden Design is able to design, specify and source any product, service or bespoke item for outside spaces.

Projects tend to have a construction value in excess of £25,000.00 and there is a small consultation fee for the first visit.

Stage One

Initial consultation

The first step is for Tom to meet with you at your property to get a feel for the area to be designed and have a chat with you about what you would really like to achieve in your garden. This will then be followed up with a written brief outlining your requirements, influenced by Tom’s ideas along with a proposed budget. This budget will include a quotation for each stage of the design including Concept, Masterplan, Tendering and Planting Plans/Plant Placement.

The Initial Consultation is charged at a fixed rate of £150 redeemable against any further design work.

Stage Two

Survey

Once you have decided to progress to the Concept stage, a full survey of your garden will be required. This is essential to allow us to take into account any existing structures, trees/plants, level changes etc that may alter the design if not accurately recorded. We are happy to arrange for the survey to be undertaken although we do ask surveyors to invoice you directly at this stage.

Stage Three

Concept

The Design Process begins once we have received the full site survey, with a Concept drawn up based on the brief from stage one. The concept will include CAD drawings, moodboards and hand drawn perspectives to give you a thorough visual understanding of how the finished garden will look.

We will then arrange a further appointment to present the drawings and answer any questions that may arise from the design. Following on from this presentation, we will offer one additional re-draw with further alterations charged on an hourly basis.

This Concept will be charged according to the estimate submitted in stage one. At this stage estimates may be revised for the remainder of the project according to the details and complexity of the Concept. With particularly detailed structures, we may need to consult with specialists and craftsmen to achieve the best results. This will be an additional service charged on an hourly basis for all consultations with skilled craftsmen.

Please not that any additional drawings will be charged at £15 per copy

Stage Four

master Plan

Once you have agreed the final Concept Plan we will then be ready to progress to Stage Four, The Masterplan. This fourth stage consists of a fully scaled Masterplan, any number of construction details, sections and elevations specifying all hard landscaping and soft landscaping materials that are to be used. These drawings are necessary both to acquire accurate quotations from contractors and to enable the contractors to build the garden to a high standard. A full detailed specification document and Bill of Quantities will be drawn up including material, size, finish of materials etc. that will clarify all aspects of the build.

You will receive copies of all the drawings and this Masterplan will be charged according to the revised estimates.

Please not that any additional drawings will be charged at £15 per copy.

Stage Five

Tendering

Once the Masterplan and any construction drawings have been signed off, an estimate will be sought for both the Hard and Soft landscaping elements with up to three landscape contractors being asked to tender a quotation.

They will receive copies of the drawings and the specification document however very often the contractors will need to visit the site to get the full understanding of these drawings, the visit will either be arranged directly with you or through our office.

Once the quotations have been submitted we will arrange an appointment to discuss the quotations received and to advise on which contractor would be most suitable to your individual requirements.

We will charge a fixed fee of £150 for this stage and on acceptance of the quote we will be ready to construct your garden.

Stage Six

Planting Plans

We are able to compile accurate plant lists and source the best quality plants possible to ensure your garden is exactly as you want it. We will order the plants from various nurseries, ensure delivery is prompt and that someone is on site to unload the plants. Tom will arrive on site either on the day of delivery or as close a possible to set the plants out correctly with the contractors.

Planting plans will be charged based on the revised estimates. All plants supplied are not included in the cost for the Planting plans and will be invoiced separately.

Due to the amount of time and effort taken in sourcing plants, we charge a mark-up on the trade cost, to cover our time. But because of our buying power we are still able pass on very favourable rates in comparison to retail nurseries.
