Town House, London

After visiting our Italianate Renaissance garden at the 2012 Chelsea Flower Show, the client requested something similar for his roof garden in London. The client wanted to use the space for sitting out in the evening and was keen for us to use some of his sculpture as eye-catchers from his study. Bowles & Wyer Landscape Contractors built the garden including the curved stone cut on a radius, and worked with Andrew Ewing who designed the infinity edge water feature.

This project required careful consideration with structural engineers as there is a void beneath the rooftop garden which needs to hold the weight of the stone, planting and water feature. The micro-climate of Greater London has meant that the species of the mediterranean planting scheme including cork oak, Italian cypress and Osmanthus topiary are quite at home – almost as though they are on a Tuscan hillside. The rosemary, thyme and lavender are flourishing alongside iris and Stachys byzantina.
